Facing Pain in Labor

What does childbirth actually feel like?

People have used words such as painful, pleasurable, very hard work, “like a period,” and even painless to describe it.  Also, having your first baby often feels very different than having your second or subsequent babies.

Join BDC to learn about variations in normal labor and how to cope with them confidently, as well as 3 circumstances when labor pain can fall outside the range of normal.

When a person is in the midst of actual labor, how do they determine whether to choose or decline pain drugs on the spot?  What is the role of partners and support people in a moment when labor might feel overwhelming?   We will discuss epidurals as well as five more types of pain relief a medical provider can administer that don’t involve heavy anesthesia.  We will also guide viewers to draw upon prior life experiences and “endurance events” that can help you prepare mentally for the work of childbirth.

Whether you plan on a medicated or unmedicated birth, or are unsure, join us to learn from the experience of those who’ve been there!  Open to expectant parents, family members, and birth professionals in any location.  This workshop is offered free and by donation as a community service.  For more info and to register, click here!
