Good Childbirth Classes Matter

Updated: Aug 12

Studies show that childbirth classes may contribute to improved birth outcomes—or they may do the opposite.  As experienced doulas, we encourage you to shop carefully for childbirth classes (and all of your birthing care!) in the way you would shop for any major life purchase or decision.

Natalie Lawson is the driving force behind the company Before the Birth Plan, and the childbirth education program “Baby Steps with Nurse Nat.”  In addition to being an amazing doula at Boston Doula Circle, she’s a Registered Nurse with degrees from Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities who has supported hundreds of families through their births.

Her childbirth classes educate parents-to-be about their options and rights, how partners can be great advocates, a wide range of comfort measures for labor, what to know about navigating the hospital from an insider’s perspective, and a detailed look at postpartum and baby care. Natalie is an expert on Black maternal health, and her classes thoroughly examine the unique challenges faced by this community. Her program is a must for Black parents-to-be, and is open to all families!

Classes are held virtually and can be attended by birthing people in any location.
